Explanation of Community Day Concept Community is based on the idea that ICT is a process of human development and evolution that involved human social networks and also the development within those networks of human collective IQ. As we build these capacities we'll learn how to better use and develop Open Source into the most appropriate technologies for local community development.
The tendency among open source developers is to develop strong peer groups in which success is defined by the design of a software task. While this often seems impressive to the developer, it can often be overwhelming to the end user and lead to a lower rate of deployment in the field than would otherwise be possible. The key to understanding this situation is to see that the feedback loop of the end user focus group which is in place in corporate proprietary business models, is often missing from many Open Source hardware development groups. So in Community Day Events we seek to encourage the coalition and community building needed to add that often missing component in the application of Open Source software in the field.
